TOWN OF CASEY
June 11, 2008
7:00 p.m.
Minutes
1. Call the town board meeting to order.
At 7:00 p.m., the town board meeting was called to order by
Chairperson Gene Bethel, at the Casey Town Hall.
2. Confirmation of proper meeting notice.
Chairperson Bethel posted the meeting notice and agenda on June 7,
2008, in the posting cabinets located at the town hall, at the
junction of Dunn Lake and Island Lake Roads, at the junction of Pair O
Lakes Road and County Trunk E and at the junction of Blackburn Road
and County Trunk E between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
3. Roll call.
Roll call taken. Present: Gene Bethel, Chairperson; Danny
Swearingen, Supervisor; Michael Wallace, Supervisor; Corinne
Slabaugh, Clerk; Cherie Luell, Treasurer. Also in attendance: Bob
Swan, Terry Ormsby, Gary Brown, Betsy Brown, Craig Martin, Lorraine
Cotts, Ruth Swanson, and DeWayne Swanson.
4. Approval of agenda. Discussion and action.
On motion by Wallace / Swearingen to approve the agenda. Motion
carried.
5. Minutes of May 14, 2008 town board meeting. Discussion and
action.
Clerk Slabaugh read the minutes of May 14, 2008 town board meeting.
Chairperson Bethel asked for additions or correction to the minutes.
None given. On motion by Wallace / Swearingen to accept the minutes
as read. Motion carried.
6. Treasurer’s report and report of accounts receivable. Discussion
and action.
Treasurer Luell gave the following report: In Johnson Bank – As of
04/30/08 in the checking account was $272,585.14. General Deposits
$619.85. Interest $284.45. Total Credits $273,489.44. Checks
Returned $12,242.16. Bank Statement Balance 05/31/08 $261,247.28.
Outstanding Checks $11.25. Reconciled Balance on 05/31/08
$261,236.03. Discussion followed. On motion by Wallace / Swearingen
to accept the treasurer’s report as read. Motion carried.
7. Public comments.
None given.
8. Permits. Discussion and action.
a. Zoning.
None
b. Driveways. Gary Brown Section 27.
Bob Swan, Town of Casey Driveway Inspector, presented the driveway
permit for Gary Brown. Discussion followed. On motion by Bethel /
Swearingen to approve the driveway permit for Gary Brown. Motion
carried.
9. Road maintenance. Discussion and action.
a. Complaints and compliments.
None given.
b. Monthly report on spring road projects.
Supervisor Swearingen and Chairperson Bethel gave an update on spring
road projects. Discussion followed. On motion by Bethel / Swearingen
to allocate an additional $10,000 for the road reconstruction of
Leisure Lake Road. Motion carried.
10. Applications for Liquor, Cigarette, and Operators Licenses.
Examination and action.
Application for beer and liquor license and cigarette license from
Nancy Gorton, trade name Bass Lake Inn, in Section 32. The Board
viewed and discussed the applications. On motion by Wallace /
Swearingen to grant a beer and liquor license and cigarette license to
Nancy Gorton. Motion carried.
Operator license applications from: Debra J Benjamin, Amy E Costello,
Melissa K Kuhnly, Marie A Lund, Janet E Mehsikomer, Rose A Tracy,
Terri L Trainor, Michelle L Truman, Mark W Regner, and Randy L
Hagstrom. Board viewed operator license applications. On motion by
Bethel / Wallace to grant operator licenses to the above persons.
Motion carried.
11. Motion authorizing Loon Lake Association to use the Casey Town
Hall on July 26th. Discussion and action.
Discussion followed. On motion by Bethel / Wallace authorizing Loon
Lake Association to use the Casey Town Hall on July 26, 2008. Motion
carried.
12. Report on workshops attended and those who will be attending
upcoming workshops. Discussion and action.
Upcoming Wisconsin Towns Association Summer 2008 Seminars will be
August 2, 2008, at Cable.
13. Correspondence. Action and filing.
Correspondence read by the board. On motion by Wallace / Swearingen
to file correspondence. Motion carried.
14. Paying of bills. Discussion and action.
Bills numbers 4796 – 4809 submitted to the board for approval. The
board discussed and initialed each bill approved. On motion by Bethel
/ Wallace to pay bills numbers 4796 – 4809. Motion carried.
15. Set date for next town board meeting.
The next town board meeting will be Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at 7:00
p.m., at the Casey Town Hall.
16. Adjournment.
At 8:10 p.m., on motion by Bethel / Wallace to adjourn. Motion
carried.
